Talkaoke – the flying saucer of chat

Talkaoke in Camden '08

Talkaoke is the the live, people-led talk-show where the host sits in in the middle of the media-rich ‘UFO of chat’, wielding the microphone and facilitating a dynamic conversation between people who gather around the Talkaoke table.

The conversation is projected live from the Talkaoke table’s broadcast system into whatever environment it lands in, mixing live, people-led conversation with the television-style excitement of a media spectacle.

The agenda is… there is no agenda.

Talkaoke is an original and entertaining way to invite people to bring their own agenda to the table. Allowing people to decide what’s relevant to them makes for spontaneous and inclusive entertainment, evaluation, facilitation and learning.

From training and enterprise events, to gallery openings, street corners, nightclubs and music festivals, Talkaoke is a tried and tested way of discovering what is on people’s minds.

To structure and record this dynamic process, Talkaoke has develped simple but powerful software tools to do live idea visualisation and video ‘tagging’ – so people can always see visual summaries of what is being talked about, and keyword search through the video afterwards.

Take control of the hole

Over the last 12 years, inventor and host Mikey Weinkove has pioneered Talkaoke as a powerful facilitation process that encourages people’s natural abilities to think laterally, enjoy each other’s company, and digress creatively.

As more people use the Internet to communicate with their interest groups or neighbourhoods, we are building more Talkaoke tables and designing a Talkaoke training programme to get new hosts using Talkaoke to stimulate debate about the issues that matter to them and their communities.

If you would like to train as a Talkaoke host, or you know someone that should – get in touch to find out about when the next training sessions will be held.
