Talkaoke

As Tate begin work on creating a new gallery space, within an old disused oil tank, The People Speak team will be talking to visitors to the Tate to find out what they would like to see in this new space. Talkaoke will be outside the Star Auditorium to discuss some of the ideas while inside the auditorium itself we’ll be canvassing the audience, creating and visualising all the great ideas on the big screen with our expert visualiser Zsolt Balogh, in an event called ‘Think-Tank’.

Talkaoke will be part of this years ‘The Event’, a free festival taking part in Southwark Park. There is a whole list of fantastic acts and artist with Alexander O’Neal headlining, supported by The Blockheads and special guests The Bachelors.

We are yet to confirm exact timings of when we’ll be there but the event will be running from 1pm – 10pm.

For those of you attending, or planning to attend, this years Latitude festival then you’re in for a treat as Talkaoke will be the final act on the Thursday night in the Literary Arena. We’re looking forward to this festival and especially some good chat and discussion around the Talkaoke table.

Talkaoke reaches the ten mark in it host training session and the list of potential new Talkaoke host grows ever stronger. In this session we went into the outside space of our Headquarters in order to test the hosts in how well the can persuade passers by to sit down on the doughnut of chat, with varying amounts of success.

An array of fuel efficient cars such as hybrids, batteries, biofuels, hydrogen & fuel cells drove from Brighton to London to help promote sustainable transport technologies; and welcoming their arrival at Potters Fields, Tower Bridge was a host of cameras, press, the mayor Boris Johnson and Talkaoke the mobile talk-show.

We were there finding out more about what was eco-rally and what people thought of sustainable transport technologies and global warming amongst other things. And, although we were under our gazebo, the weather did manage to hold out and stay dry throughout the day.

Talkaoke continues it’s Danish tour in the beautiful and controversial suburb of Gellerup, at the fantastic Café Perlen (and to understand the name, you’ll have to do some research).

We have heard that people there are concerned about the introduction of CCTV cameras and that there’s lots to talk about on that front… but hey, this is Talkaoke. The agenda is… there is no agenda.

If you speak Danish and live locally, do join us! Hosting the session will be our new Danish Talkaoke hosts Pernille Kølbæk and Rolf Glumsøe Nielsen. We will also be scouting for more local talent, so if you fancy a go driving the UFO of chat – please let us know.

Talkaoke fortsætter sin danske tour i den smukke multikulturelle forstad Gellerup, på den fantastiske Cafe Perlen. (for at forstå navnet, må du lave lidt research)

Vi har hørt at folk er lidt bekymrede over CCTV (overvågnings)kamera, og at der skulle være en del at tale om i den forbindelse…. Det her er Talkaoke! Agendaen er, at der ingen agenda er. Så ordet er frit!

Talkaoke continues it’s Jutland tour in the beautiful town of Skive, Denmark, where we’ll be joining our friends Bloc party, the Killers and other pop acts to deliver decibels of Danish discussion.

Hosting will be once again provided by our new Danish Talkaoke hosts Pernille Kølbæk and Rolf Glumsøe Nielsen, although Mikey and some special guest starts (to be announced) might jump in the middle if the chat goes all international at some point.

Talkaoke-bordet vil lande fredag den 5. juni mellem telte, bands og glade mennesker ved Skive Beach Party. Alle indbydes til at være med til en medlevende formiddag fyldt med konversation. Det hele styres af DIG SELV, Talkaoke-isten!

Talkaoke vil være på dansk og ledes af den vidunderlige talkshow-vært, Pernille.

Talkaoke er, at det er et televiseret talk show for almindelige mennesker. Projektet er et samarbejde mellem Center for Digital Aesthetic Research Center, Center for Digital Urban Living og The People Speak fra London. Formålet er at engagere mennesker til at fortælle om det sted de befinder sig, deres by og deres liv på en måde, der er sjov og umiddelbar for dem selv. Talkshowformatet fungerer her godt, fordi det ikke har karakter af en offentlig høring arrangeret af kommunen, det giver mere indsigt end en journalists ‘voxpop’ og er langt mere underholdende end en forskers fokusgruppeinterview eller et spørgeskema.

Talkaoke består af et rundt bord (en lysende ufo) med en talkshow-vært i midten. Folk kan frit sætte sig ned og deltage i konversationen. Det hele transmiteres live på internettet, hvor
konversationen kan tilføjes talebobler og illustrationer. Disse kommentarer og illustrationer bringes under talkshowet på en skærm, som deltagerne og tilhørerne kan følge med i. Efterfølgende arkiveres optagelserne på archive.org.

Talkaoke is the open-mic talk-show from London, where anyone can sit and air their views around the UFO of Chat.

The Talkaoke Table will be landing this Thursday 21st May in the wonderful Rum46 in downtown Århus next Thursday, for an evening of conviviality and conversation led by you, the Talkaokeists!

This week Talkaoke will be hosted in Danish and English by our new host Pernille, who rocked the table on her first session last week.

Bring your opinions, ideas, complaints, questions… anything you want to discuss, or just come to drink, eat and hear what people have to say. If it’s your first time at Talkaoke – there are only two rules: no singing, and no punch-ups. Apart from that, anything can happen, and often does.

This weeks host training session had two new host who had yet to have go in the middle and yet they both seemed at ease controlling the doughnut of chat. The weather hadn’t played it’s part so Talkaoke wasn’t able to go outside but this didn’t stop the chat flowing. Politics & Democracy and how it works/doesn’t work were some of the main topics.
